Through this expanded radio program, we navigated diverse sonic imaginaries and reflected on water, approaching its fluid and continuous nature as a vital element that challenges binary notions.
As part of the exhibition OTR*S MUND*S at the Museo Tamayo, Radio Nopal invited Ruta del Castor to join its radio programming. This program traversed diverse sonic imaginaries drawn from an ongoing investigation into water, understood through its fluid and continuous nature as a vital element that challenges binary notions, fosters alternative rhythms of perception, and invites us to listen to and interweave with one another.
Throughout the broadcasts, we were joined by special guests and listened to fragments of projects, works, and processes such as:
La Oficina del Agua: an exhibition installation presented at BIENALSUR 2021 in Buenos Aires that, through the simulation of an office, circulated thoughts between the darkness of night and the depths of water.
Careta Caretita: an interactive virtual work commissioned in 2022, created by Lía García (La Novia Sirena) and Canuto Roldán, which stems from the story of a trans* boy who meets his sea fairy during the lockdown triggered by the pandemic. The work seeks to make visible and expand narratives around gender diversity in childhood and youth, through encounters of radical affection and tenderness.
Sembrando Humedad: a five-day gathering developed in collaboration with artist and activist Carolina Caycedo, through which we anchored ourselves in Mexico’s aquifer system. Through a program of activities and knowledge exchange between organizations, the local community of Xochimilco, artists, educators, researchers, activists, farmers, and students (April 2024), we collectively reflected on our relationship with water as a connecting body between cultures and ecosystems.

Durante la residencia predominaron los objetivos de PROTAGONISMO e IMAGINACIÓN tanto en las intenciones de les artistas como en el impacto observado en los digestivos realizados con el equipo de mediación. La repetición de materiales potenció el sentido de pertenencia e involucramiento de las infancias con el proceso creativo.
Tomando como eje principal los procesos de creación narrativa de las infancias, la residencia de Rufus Shakespeare + Andrés Sánchez exploró diversas técnicas y materiales para el desarrollo de piezas audiovisuales en las que les participantes fueran creadores y protagonistas.
Empleando diversas herramientas tanto análogas como digitales, Rufus y Andrés buscaron potenciar las capacidades expresivas de cada integrante del grupo para compartir su voz individual. Desde el registro sonoro, pasando por el stop motion hasta el uso de pantalla verde, las piezas finales presentan un vistazo a universos lúdicos llenos de textura y movimiento.
La residencia concluyó con una muestra grupal de todas las piezas audiovisuales a manera de premiere con una alfombra roja, paparazzis, palomitas y un picnic de celebración.
