Ruta del Castor was born out of a friendship...

From a shared desire to create art projects together that move us, question us, and resonate with our surroundings.

The earthquake of September 19, 2017 in Mexico City placed us in the midst of a crisis, but it also opened a space for community gathering and collective action. That moment led us to rethink our role in cultural and artistic practice: we understood that our work could contribute to generating conversations about the world we inhabit.

We began by visiting the Casa Cuna La Paz children’s home every Tuesday to play and create with the children. We invited artist friends, explored ideas and materials, and gradually a program of artistic residencies began to take shape. In parallel, we convened, for the first time, the artistic community and civil society in a public-space dialogue during the 2018 presidential elections. With a poem, we set in motion the beginning of our public art projects.

In the search for a name that could give identity to these initiatives, we merged our last names and arrived at the beaver: an animal that actively transforms its environment for the well-being of its community. We drew inspiration from its natural architecture to imagine our artistic projects through humor, improvisation, experimentation, and joy.

Today, Ruta del Castor is a growing collective that produces and accompanies projects with the conviction that art is a tool to strengthen shared life.
