BARRO: ESCRITURA INESTABLE

Ruta del CASTOR presented Barro: escritura inestable a public art project by Verónica Meloni, at Monumento a la Revolución in Mexico City.

From a collaborative process with a group of street sweepers from Mexico City, the artist presented a collective action in the Monumento a la Revolución plaza.

Through the act of sweeping as an exercise of depletion of language and writing, the participants formed a list of words of affect, in association to their work and environment.

Lists of names in public space usually refer to absent people, while the premise of this action was to name living ones.

The intervention addressed different tensions. On one hand, the tension between what the word reads and the enigmatic stimulus that it provokes as an image. On the other hand, the tension between the monumentality of the space and the everyday gestures such as sweeping, writing and caring.
