LUCÍA HINOJOSA

Lucía Hinojosa Gaxiola is an interdisciplinary artist. Her time-based practice explores the fluidity of language through a poetics of research, resulting in a corpus of visual, sound and textual works. She has exhibited and performed in galleries and venues such as Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City), Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros (Mexico), Audiograft Festival of Sound Art (Oxford), Chalton Gallery (London), Grice Bench Gallery (Los Angeles), The Poetry Project (New York) and Anthology Film Archives (New York), among others. Her critical writings and poems have appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, GasTV, Dolce Stil Criollo, Bombay Gin, philoSOPHIA, Precog Mag and other publications. She received her BA in Visual and Critical Studies from SVA, and completed the two-year program at SOMA in Mexico City. In 2013, she co-founded the experimental publishing platform diSONARE and recently started RIZOMA, a series of performance workshops for incarcerated women.

Through expanded poetry exercises (poetry off the page or beyond the "word" / poetry as a practice of relating to the world and apparatus of perception / poetry as a web of voices, identities, dialogues, and collective memories) that was worked on in Casa Cuna, to create a dialogue that will explore narratives of identity, the archive and/or memory "impregnated" in the textures, architectures and memories of the house as refuge and projection, the relationships of the house and the neighborhood, the poetics of routine and discipline, as well as the agency and incidence that each has on its community.
 

EXERCISES DURING THE RESIDENCY:

  • Poetic/ritual exercises in the garden. 

  • Poems in space/in the body, voice, song, murmur and word as a register of an expansive/affective relationship. 

  • Collective improvisations 

  • Sound scores/instructions

  • Exercises of deep listening
