LA HERVIDERA

Educational experimentation laboratory that investigates forms of knowledge through the arts. Producing workshops and educational projects for different audiences, they produce pedagogical materials and furniture, as well as consultancies for schools and development of training programs for trainers.

The group considers education as a cultural production of strong political action and is inspired by disruptive pedagogy, the Montessori school, the Waldorf system and Reggio Emilia philosophy. It links theories of neuro-education, sensory integration and play, to give rise to different ways of looking and constructing meanings. It promotes independent and socialization processes where spontaneity, trial, error and testing are part of learning and the appropriation of knowledge.

They are made up of an artist specialized on the body, a musician, three visual artists and a cultural manager.

The Hervidera members are: Alina Maldonado, Aisel Wicab, Ana G. Zambrano, Cristina Medellín and Idalid Castillo.

28.08. 2019 — 02.10.2019

The main objective of the 6 sessions was to create playful environments for girls and boys to experience critical, creative and reflective processes. Offering them a space that will facilitate the integration of the group through play and artistic experimentation.

In each session, La Hervidera proposed a different space / setting in which they used drawing as a means of exploration, expanding the practical notion through the use of the body, sound and visual language, as well as recording possibilities.

Session 1:

For the first session La Hervidera transformed the classroom applying kraft paper on the entire floor of the room. They created a new free space to explore their body and imagination through drawing and with background music.

Session 2:

As a second activity we worked on the three-dimensionality of drawing. We no longer only drew on paper, but also in space with lights.

Session 3:

La Hervidera together with the children played with plastic bags and a giant fan building La Casa del Aire (The house of wind).

Session 4:

For this session, the children dedicated themselves to painting La Casa del Aire (The House of Wind) and creating a safe and creative space for them.

Session 5:

La Hervidera took the kraft paper activity further from the first session. The students had to recreate a space with the use of the body alongside the sound of a violin. The rhythm determined the movement, and therefore the drawing.

Session 6:

Outdoor space was used for the children to explore different activities and challenges with their bodies.
